Worldly Sorrows, Questions About God, and the Truth of Karma
Why Do We Fall Into Misunderstandings?
When we cast our eyes around this vast world, we inevitably confront a bitter and unsettling truth of life. Seeing the inequality and relentless suffering spread across society often makes a person’s head spin. We observe around us that someone who lives an entirely honest, virtuous, and hardworking life still struggles through poverty and hardship until their dying day. Conversely, we also see people who step on others, act dishonestly, and yet live a life of absolute ease and luxury.
Witnessing these glaring contradictions raises some deeply piercing and difficult questions in the mind of any sensitive person:
- If there is a supreme power (God) running this universe, and if that power is compassionate and just, why is there so much injustice and darkness in the world?
- Why do the worst storms and tragedies strike the lives of those who never wish ill upon anyone and live with absolute sincerity?
- Has our destiny already been written by someone else, or can we truly change the direction of our lives through our own actions?
Surrounded by these endless questions, the human mind naturally rebels. In moments of despair and helplessness, people often begin to blame God. They start thinking that either God is deaf and blind, or there is no rule of karma and justice in this universe at all.
However, have you ever wondered why we are so quick to point a finger at God? The biggest reason is that we remain entirely unaware of that deep and scientific Karmic Cycle operating quietly behind the scenes to govern our past, present, and future.
Let us understand this mental turmoil and its philosophical resolution through a simple example.
The Confusion of an Ordinary Person: The Story of Rahul
Imagine a young man named Rahul. Rahul is an educated, hardworking, and exceptionally kind-hearted person. He never wishes harm upon anyone, works with absolute integrity at his office, and readily helps those in need. He firmly believed that virtue is always rewarded with goodness.
Suddenly, however, life took a sharp turn that pulled the rug right out from under Rahul's feet. In a major corporate layoff, he lost his job. He began tapping into his meager savings to cover household expenses. Before he could even recover from that shock, his father fell severely ill and had to be hospitalized. The medical bills piled up so rapidly that Rahul's entire reserve of savings vanished within a matter of weeks.
Now, Rahul was completely broken. Sitting in the hospital corridors late at night, weeping in frustration, he cried out to God:
"What crime did I commit by walking the path of honesty and righteousness? I never harmed a soul, so why am I being punished like this? Is God nothing more than a cruel spectator?"
This pain, this anger, and this question do not belong to Rahul alone—they belong to all of us. Whenever a crisis hits our lives whose cause we cannot comprehend, we instantly begin questioning God.
Yet, when Rahul went in search of answers to a wise and spiritual guide, he realized that behind all this suffering lay not divine injustice, but the unforgiving, precise law of the Three Stages of Karma.
The Wheel of Karma: The Truth of Sanchit, Prarabdha, and Kriyamana
The guide explained to Rahul that it is a mistake to view life solely through the narrow lens of this single birth. This life of ours is just a single chapter in a long, ongoing journey. The complete mathematics of karma is divided into three parts:
1. Sanchit Karma (The Warehouse of Past Actions)
The guide told Rahul that his current suffering is not merely the result of actions performed in this single lifetime. The human soul has traveled through countless past lives to reach this point.
- The Reality: We carry a massive "bank account" or warehouse containing every good and bad deed from all our previous births, which is called Sanchit Karma. It holds the complete ledger of our past. This reserve is so massive and heavy that if its entire account were opened before a human mind all at once, it would shatter from the weight. That is why nature keeps this warehouse sealed.
2. Prarabdha Karma (Destiny – The Fruit That Must Be Reaped)
Rahul's sudden job loss and his father's illness were not random accidents. Smiling gently, the guide said, "Rahul, this is the fruit of your Prarabdha Karma."
- The Reality: From that vast warehouse of Sanchit Karma, a specific selection of seeds is drawn out to sprout and bear fruit in this specific lifetime. This is what we call 'destiny' or Prarabdha. Just like an archer who cannot call back an arrow once it has left the bow, the circumstances (whether joy or sorrow) that manifest as Prarabdha cannot be altered. You simply have to experience and endure them. Rahul's job loss and his father's illness were part of that pre-destined portion from which there was no escape.
3. Kriyamana Karma (Present Free Will – Actual Real-Time Control)
This is where the most critical turning point arrives. The guide told Rahul that while Prarabdha gave him the circumstance, what he does now is entirely in his own hands.
- The Reality: This is where Kriyamana Karma is born. This is the action that God has given human beings the absolute freedom (Free Will) to execute in the present moment. Rahul had two choices: first, to keep cursing his fate, blaming God, and wasting his life away in despair; or second, to understand that while yesterday and today's crisis were out of his control, the steps he chooses to take right now in the present moment will shape his future.
Solution and Conclusion: God Is Not to Blame, We Are the Creators of Our Reality
When Rahul grasped this profound philosophical truth, all the inner anger and resentment he held toward God vanished. It became crystal clear to him that God is neither a judge nor an executioner handing out arbitrary punishments. This entire universe does not run on personal wrath or bias, but on an unyielding scientific law of Cause and Effect—the karmic cycle.
Rahul stopped blaming God. He brushed aside his anxiety and despair, pouring all his energy into fixing the present. He picked up online freelancing during his spare time, explored new avenues, left no stone unturned in nursing his father back to health, and kept making right choices while maintaining a positive outlook.
Within a few months of rigorous hard work and correct 'Kriyamana Karma', Rahul's fortunes began to turn. His freelance venture took off, his financial situation stabilized, and his father's health showed miraculous improvement. The very hardships that threatened to destroy his present were conquered through the strength of his current decisions. Furthermore, these good and resilient actions of today strengthened his Sanchit Karma account, securing his future.
Final Message: As long as we remain ignorant of this deep science of karma, we will continue to curse God or our luck for our failures and sorrows. But the moment we realize that our current pains are the seeds sown by our past, and our present effort (Kriyamana Karma) is the key to unlocking our future destiny, every major complication in life becomes manageable.
Do you also surrender to the difficulties in your life, or do you possess the power to write your own destiny through the choices you make today? The choice is entirely yours!
